Barrie And Jones Honored As WestConn Athletics Wolves Of The Week

1/15/2025 11:35:00 AM

DANBURY, Conn. - Each week, WestConn Athletics selects one female and one male student-athlete as the Wolves of the Week, recognizing their outstanding performances in their respective sports from the previous week. The honorees are announced every Wednesday.  The 16th overall and second Wolves of the Week of 2025 have been selected thanks to their strong performances on the basketball court. Men's basketball senior Keeshawn Jones (Middletown, N.Y.) and women's basketball freshman Fatmata Barrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) have been named as the Wolves of the Week.

Barrie collected 17 rebounds in two games, including 11 boards in a road game at Eastern Connecticut.  She also scored eight points and blocked a shot against the Warriors last Wednesday.  On Saturday, Barrie made her first career start against Southern Maine and grabbed six rebounds while scoring four points and making a steal.  Barrie is tied for the WestConn lead in rebounding with 7.9 per game, as the Wolves will visit Little East Conference (LEC) rival Keene State next on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Jones played the pivotal role in WestConn's 76-74 win against Southern Maine, scoring a game-high 25 points to go with five steals, four rebounds, and three assists.  He made nine of 14 shots from the floor, three of four from long range, and four of five from the foul line, while making a steal and full-court, outlet assist on the game-winning basket in the closing seconds against the Huskies.  Jones, who also scored seven points, dished three assists, and made two steals in a win at Eastern Connecticut last week, is averaging 8.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.  The Wolves will visit LEC rival Keene State next on Thursday at 6 p.m.
