DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team opened the 2025 campaign with a 5-0 loss to visiting non-conference foe Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.

Sophomore Aleena Solano (Spencerport, N.Y.) paced the Saints with two goals. 

Solano broke the ice just 1:27 into the contest when she gathered a rebound and blasted a shot into the top corner of the net. Shortly thereafter, she took a feed from senior Liz McCormick (Cumberland, R.I.) and notched her second marker of the game. Rookie midfielder Carla Andreu Panighi (Tervuren, Belgium) followed with an unassisted scoring strike before first-year Kayla Silveira (Candia, N.H.) took a nifty pass from McCormick and buried another shot into the twine, giving the Saints a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

Dullaghan earned her first goal of the game just less than a minute into the second half, assisted by rookie Abby Chambers (Plymouth, Mass.). The Wolves best scoring chance came when sophomore forward Shannon Anderson (New Milford, Conn.) raced downfield and fired a shot that just missed the right post. But the visitors would cruise the rest of the way. WestConn junior goalie Gracen Regan (Monroe, N.J.) racked up 16 saves in defeat.

With the loss, WestConn moved to 0-1 overall while Emmanuel improved to 1-0. The Wolves will seek to rebound when they travel to Rivier University for another non-league matchup on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
