MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Senior LHP
Olivia Bordenaro (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) allowed seven hits and three runs in a complete game, but the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves lost, 3-1, to the Wesleyan University Cardinals in softball action this afternoon. WestConn, which also lost game two of the doubleheader, 6-0, is now 20-16 having gone 2-4 in three twinbills over the last three days. The Wolves will visit Vermont State University Castleton next in a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
WestConn scored the first run of the day when junior SS
Jaycee Filancia (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a squeeze bunt by graduate OF
Gretchen Bunovsky (Monroe, Conn.). The Wolves loaded the bases later in the same inning on singles by sophomore
Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.), junior
Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.), and graduate
Rachael Ushka (Southbury, Conn.) but could not push across another run. Wesleyan answered with two runs in the bottom of the first frame and the scored remained the same until the fifth when the Cardinals added an insurance run.
In the second game, Wesleyan totaled 11 hits and built a 3-0 lead before the first WestConn offensive threat. Resto and senior OF
Brianna Malvino (Glen Cove, N.Y.) singled in the fifth inning. The Cardinals scored three more runs in the fifth and sixth inning, while WestConn sophomore
Benni Tucci (Norwalk, Conn.) doubled in the sixth and freshman
Sera DeBaggis (Mendon, Mass.) tripled in the seventh but neither came around to score. Wolves sophomore
Brianne McKay () went the distance and struck out three without a walk but fell to 0-2. Malvino had two hits for the WestConn offense.
