CASTLETON, Vt. - Sophomore RHP Lindsay Farinacchio (Red Hook, N.Y.) pitched a five-hit shutout to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 9-0 win over the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans in Little East Conference (LEC) softball action this afternoon. WestConn, which was beaten in the nightcap, 3-0, moves to 21-17 overall and 7-7 in the LEC. Castleton is now 16-12 overall and 5-7 in the league. The Wolves close the 2025 regular season on Saturday with a road doubleheader at Southern Maine at noon and are looking to qualify for the LEC Championship Tournament.

Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.). WestConn gave itself a chance to end the game early, scoring three unearned runs in the fifth including two on a two-out, two-run single by junior
Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.). Farinacchio yielded a hit and a walk in the bottom of the fifth but got out of the inning unscathed for the five-inning complete game.

Olivia Bordenaro (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) gave up just two singles and a walk over five scoreless innings of work but surrendered three unearned runs in the sixth frame that proved to be the only runs in the contest. Wolves graduate
Gretchen Bunovsky (Monroe, Conn.) doubled with one out in the seventh, but Spartan pitcher Madison Gould retired the last two batters to finish her three-hit shutout with nine K's. Bordenaro yielded four hits and two walks with five strikeouts, while Allen doubled and sophomore
