WestConn Baseball Swept By Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves dropped a Little East Conference (LEC) baseball doubleheader, 13/14-1/4, to the Rhode Island College Anchormen at Pontarelli Field this afternoon.  WestConn falls to 8-19 overall and 1-10 in the LEC.  Rhode Island College improves to 10-19 overall and 4-7 in the league.  WestConn will play its third game in as many days tomorrow at 4 p.m. when they travel to Wesleyan.

Rhode Island College built a 6-0 lead in the first two innings of the first game and scored in five of its six turns at bat.  Freshman starter Trey Lindsey (Windham, Conn.) fell to 1-1.  In game two, the Anchormen led, 4-0, before sophomore 1B Thomas Keough (Farmington, Conn.) got the Wolves on the board with an RBI single in the fourth.  Rhode Island College answered with nine runs over the next three innings, however.  Sophomore Ryan Vallie (East Haven, Conn.) hit a two-run triple for WestConn to highlight a three-run seventh.  Freshman LHP Quinn McGuire (Monroe, Conn.) started and took the loss in the second game, dropping to 1-4.  Senior Nick Moeller (Mahopac, N.Y.) and sophomores Bryan Birkl (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Jayson Hannah (Staten Island, N.Y.) had hits in each game for WestConn.
