Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Western Connecticut State University men's tennis team edged host Purchase College, 4-3, in a non-league matchup on Thursday afternoon.

WestConn took an early 1-0 lead in match after doubles. Tenesaca/Burke raced out to a quick 3-0 lead and didn't look back from No. 1 doubles, winning 6-2. Harris/Zambrano began the match with a dominant 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot. The Peschier/Gsell match went to a tiebreaker where they eventually dropped it 7-5 in the breaker from the No. 2 hole.

In singles, Zambrano (No. 6) gave WestConn a 2-0 lead after his dominant win. Purchase then stormed back winning the next 3 singles courts at #1, #4 and #5 to take a 3-2 lead in the match, needing one more court to win.

In the meantime, Burke (No. 2) just won the first set in grueling fashion, winning in a tiebreaker. And Harris (No. 3) came back after losing his first set and won the second set. WestConn needed both courts to secure the win. As Burke began his second set battle, Harris played a 10-point tiebreaker for the match, after fighting off one match point against him, he completed the win by winning the next 3 points, knotting the overall match 3-3 and leaving Burke's match to be the deciding factor for victory.

As the rain drizzled in, Burke valiantly won the second set 7-5, winning his match and clinching WestConn's victory 4-3.

Combined in doubles and singles, Burke, Harris and Zambrano went 6-0 on the afternoon.

"It's great to be on the winning side of this match today, it was an excellent win. With Aidan and Caleb being the last ones playing, I didn't want to burden them with the extra pressure of knowing we needed both of their courts to get the win, but something tells me it wouldn't have mattered. They stepped up big time," said WestConn head coach following play.

The Wolves return to action at Little East Conference foe Southern Maine on Saturday.
