PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Western Connecticut State University third doubles tandem, consisting of senior
Caleb Harris (Guilford, Conn.) and freshman
Jose Zambrano (Danbury, Conn.) registered an 8-3 victory, but the visiting Wolves could not garner another point in a 5-1 loss to the Rhode Island College Anchormen in the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Championship Semifinals this afternoon at the RIC Tennis Center. No. 4-seeded WestConn finishes the season with an 8-10 record. The top-seeded Anchormen improve to 11-1 and advance the conference finals on Saturday. Rhode Island College took two of three doubles points and added three singles victories in straight sets to secure the necessary five points. Wolves junior
Aidan Burke (Wilton, Conn.) won the first set at second singles when the team decision ended the match.
"We had our work cut out for us in singles today," said WestConn Head Coach Shawn Stillman. "We fell behind early on most courts and it became too much of a challenge to come back. Congrats to Rhode Island. As for our season, it was a great run. Our late night indoor practices and our spring break trip were just some of the many highlights. We are a young team and I look forward to what's to come."
