MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves fell victim to a star pitching performance in one game and some late-game heroics in the second, as the Wolves dropped both ends of a baseball doubleheader, 12/10-0/7, against the St. Joseph's University-Long Island Golden Eagles this afternoon at Griffith Field. WestConn falls to 305 after a 3-0 start and will conclude its spring break trip to the Ripken Baseball Experience with a doubleheader against Apprentice Newport News tomorrow at 4 p.m. St. Joseph;s improves to 9-6.
Golden Eagle pitcher Peter Manger tossed a one-hitter in the first game, as Wolves sophomore
Thomas Keough (Farmington, Conn.) broke it up in the seventh with a single to left field. St. Joseph's built a 5-0 lead after two innings although WestConn rookie starter
Quinn McGuire (Milford, Conn.) only gave up two earned runs in his four innings of work in his collegiate debut. In the second game, WestConn fell behind again in the second game, 5-1, after two innings but rallied to tie it at 7-7 with four runs in the fifth frame and one each in the fourth and sixth innings. The Golden Eagles answered with three unearned runs in the top of the seventh and final inning.
