Max Grewal (ong Beach, N.Y.) pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts, as the Wolves opened their spring break trip to South Carolina with a 12-1 win over the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes this afternoon at the the Ripken Experience Ebbets Field. WestConn senior
Spencer Barnett (Danbury, Conn.) and sophomore Jayson Hannan (Staten Island, N.Y.) both went 3-for-4 at the plate. The Wolves, who were also stunned, 6-5, by the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers today, are now 3-1 and will play St. Joseph's (N.Y.) University in a doibleheader tomorrow at 4 p.m.
Hannah singled and scored the game's first run against Geneva in the second inning, and the Wolves scored three runs in the third thanks to an RBI triple by Barnett, an RBI double by freshman
Sal Visone (North Bellmore, N.Y.) and a two-out, RBI single by sophomore SS
Bryan Birkl (Farmingdale, N.Y.). WestConn sophomore OF
Richard Salonia (Bronx, N.Y.) highlighted a three-run fourth frame with a two-out, two-run single and added another run-scoring single with two outs in the sixth and Hannah added a two-run double in the sixth inning. Grewal allowed just one run in the sixth inning and improved to 2-0 with the seven-inning complete game.
Against Old Westbury, Birkl singled and scored on a hit by sophomore 1B

Luke Dawson (Stratford, Conn.) singled and scored on a single by rookie
Billy Untiet (Southington, Conn.) in the second, and Dawson keyed a three-run third ofr WestConn with a two-run double to make the score, 5-0. The Panthers got one run back in the fourth and scored an unearned run in the sixth, as WestConn sophomore starter
Brian Mansfield (Lynbrook, N.Y.) was stellar through six innings with two hits and two walks allowed and a pair of K's. Wolves rookie reliever
Rocco Panaro (Selden, N.Y.) was solid for two innings, yielding a pair of unearned runs, but Old Westbury stole the win with two walks, an error, and a walk-off two-run double that left WestConn on the field. Dawson and senior Nick Moeller (Mahopac, N.Y) each had three hits for the Wolves offense.
