MELBOURNE, Fla. – Freshman Madison Mandra (Bethpage, N.Y.) picked up her first career victory in her first outing to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 9-2 victory over the St. Norbert College Green Knights in Space Coast Games softball action this afternoon. Fellow WestConn freshman Hailey O'Reilly (Riverdale, N.J.) earned the save. WestConn, which also lost against the Hamilton College Continentals today, 6-1, are 3-1 with a re-match against Hamilton at 4:45 p.m. and an evening date with the University of Hartford Hawks at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
Against St. Norbert, WestConn's offense had 12 hits, led by sophomore Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.) who was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Wolves graduate Gretchen Bunovsky (Monroe, Conn.) and senior Brianna Malvino (Glen Cove, N.Y.) were both 2-for-3 with two RBIs. WestConn senior Carly Cordova (East Haven, Conn.) had a sacrifice fly n the the top of the fifth inning to drive in the Wolves' run against Hamilton.
