KEENE, N.H. - Despite a team-high 13 points from rookie reserve forward
Marcel Henry (Yonkers, N.Y.), the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team fell at Keene State College, 100-62, in a Little East Conference matchup at Spaulding Gym on Thursday night.
Rookie guard
Nicholas Moore (Buffalo, N.Y.) was the lone WestConn player to join Henry in double figures, finishing with 10.Â
Spencer Aronson paced the Owls with a game-high 19 points which included five trifectas to go along with five assists. Octavio Brito chipped in with 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The hosts shot a blistering 42 percent (18-of-43) from three-point territory while the visitors managed just a 23 percent (3-of-13) clip. WestConn won the battle on the glass, 44-41. However, they coughed the ball up 22 times while the Owls committed just 13 turnovers. It translated into 32 points off turnovers for the hosts.
Keene State opened the contest with a 7-0 spurt and would not look back. Brito rounded out the flurry with a fastbreak layup off a nifty pass from Aronson. The Owls stretched it to 35-9 midway through the first half when Mitch Shettles connected on a three-pointer. Keene would hold a 54-26 halftime advantage.
Spencer canned yet another shot from beyond-the-arc for the hosts to begin second half play and they would coast for the remainder. With the loss, WestConn dropped to 8-8 overall and 4-3 in league play, while the Owls improved to 11-3 and 6-0.Â
The Wolves will look to pierce the win column on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host UMass Dartmouth in yet another LEC tilt.
