WestConn Women's Soccer Closes 2023 Regular Season With Win Over RIC

Wolves Coach Alex Harrison Collects 100th Career Victory

DANBURY, Conn. - Senior Myah Croce (Bristol, Conn.) had two goals and two assists to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a  victory over the visiting Rhode Island College Anchorwomen in the regular season finale for both teams in Little East Conference (LEC) women's soccer action this afternoon at Westside Complex. WestConn finishes its regular campaign at 9-7-4 overall and 5-2-1 in the Little East, securing the No. 2 seed in the LEC Championship Tournament and giving Head Coach Alex Harrison his 100th career victory.  Rhode Island College falls to 7-7-3 and 3-3-2 in the league and will continue its season in the LEC Tournament as the No. 5 seed.

WestConn dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Anchorwomen, 26-5.  Croze scored the first goal in the 22nd minute, poking in a rebound after Rhode Island College goalie Chloe Angelone had saved the initial shot from the left side by junior midfielder Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.).  The Wolves peppered Angelone with a flurry of shots in the 34th minute but did not put its second point on the board until senior Hannah Daly (Newtown, Conn.) one-timed in a pass by Croze of an indirect kick from the left flank.

WestConn junior midfielder Adriana Alfano (New Milford, Conn.) netted the third goal early in the second half, perfectly heading in a corner kick from the left by Croze in the 46th minute.  Croze registered her second marker of the game in the 57th minute, converting on an assist by Julia DePalma (Kings Park, N.Y.).  Senior Olivia Kotsaftis (Prospect, Conn.) who had almost made it, 4-0, moments before Croze's second goal when her direct kick from deep on the left side caromed off the cross bar, notched the first goal of her career in the final regular season game of her career, beating Angelone on a penalty kick low and to the keeper's left.

Both teams nearly scored again in final minutes, as Daly hit the cross bar on a hard shot and rookie Anchorwoman Amber Almeida hit the post in the 86th minute.  Freshman Gracen Regan (Monroe, N.J.) and junior Kasey Donnelly (New Milford, Conn.) combined on the shutout in goal for WestConn, combining for three saves, while Angelone finished with nine stops for Rhode Island College.  Harrison, in is eighth season with the Wolves, now has a 100-39-11 career record at the helm of the WestConn program.
