GORHAM, Maine - After a dramatic postseason run, the fourth-seeded Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 3-0 defeat at third-seeded Southern Maine in the Little East Conference championship game on Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field. The Wolves downed fifth-seeded Rhode Island College in the first round earlier this week before blanking top-seeded host Eastern Connecticut in the semifinals. With today's loss, WestConn ended the campaign at a respectable 13-8-2 overall. The Huskies earned the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament and upped their record to 11-10-2.

The hosts controlled the majority of play as they outshot the visitors, 24-9. WestConn did force seven corner kick attempts while Southern Maine managed just three. The Huskies got on the board midway through the first half when Makyla Magid tallied her sixth goal of the season. 

The Wolves were unable to connect with the twine in the second half as the Huskies cruised to the crown. Madi Sainis canned her fourth goal of the season widening the gap to 2-0 in the 60th minute of play. Shortly thereafter, Lexi Morin netted the final goal of the contest off a feed from Meghan Przybilla, rounding the count out at 3-0 in the 68th minute. Przybilla assisted on all three of the Southern Maine scoring strikes. 

WestConn junior goalkeeper Gracen Regan (Monroe, N.J.) put forth a solid effort as she halted eight Husky shots. Madi Cook finished with a trio of saves for Southern Maine.
