Box Score DANBURY, CT – Junior forward Autumn Sorice (Bethel, CT) scored one goal in the first half and two in the second to lead the Western Connecticut women's soccer team to a 4-0 Little East Conference victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.
Western got on the board in the game's 13th minute when junior Andrea DeVoe (Farmington, CT) intercepted a soft pass from the UMass Dartmouth defense in the Corsairs' end of the field. DeVoe passed the ball quickly to her left across the top of the box to Sorice, who beat the UMass Dartmouth keeper high to the right side of the cage for a 1-0 Western lead.
Midway through the first period, Western nearly took a two-goal lead when the Colonials earned a corner kick that was taken by senior Celia DeVoe (Farmington, CT). Sorice settled DeVoe's pass and took a shot that rebounded into the air off a UMass Dartmouth defender. Anderea DeVoe headed the ball just wide to the right of the goal, leaving the score 1-0.
After 45 minutes of play, Western held a 9-6 advantage in shots, and a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.
With nine minutes played in the second half, Sorice scored her second goal of the game, to give Western a 2-0 lead, and then added another two minutes later to complete the hat trick and put the Colonials on top 3-0.
Less than two minutes later, freshman Jasmine Grey (Naugatuck, CT) scored her first goal of the season when she attacked a nicely placed corner kick pass form Celia DeVoe, and pounded the ball past the UMass Dartmouth keeper for a 4-0 Western lead.
Western finished with a 19-12 advantage in shots, and a 4-0 final margin of victory.
