Don Ferguson

Don Ferguson was hired as Western Connecticut State University's seventh volleyball coach in May of 2012 and has compiled a 223-135 record with the Wolves including a 16-14 mark in 2024.  Ferguson led the Wolves to a Little East Conference (LEC) title and the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and won an LEC regular season crown in 2012 and 2019.  He was named the LEC Coach of the Year in both 2012 and 2016.  Ferguson's teams have made a big difference in the classroom and in the community year after year.  His squads have received American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) academic honors and been among the top 10% in the nation multiple times. 

Ferguson came to WestConn after seven seasons as the head coach at the University of Hartford, where he coached for seven seasons and earned America East Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2010.  Prior to Hartford, Ferguson served as the head coach at Division II Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire from 2002 to 2004. He led the Hawks to consecutive Northeast-10 playoff appearances

Ferguson also served as an assistant coach for the nationally-ranked men's volleyball program at Division III Rivier College in Nashua, New Hampshire where he helped lead the team to three New England Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Championships from 2001 to 2003. Ferguson was additionally head coach for the girl's volleyball team at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, where he was named 2001 Class L Coach of the Year.

Ferguson earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Rivier in 2000. He was captain of the men's volleyball team at Rivier from 1994-96 where he led the team in virtually every statistical category. He was named to the All-NECVA Second Team and ranked nationally in hitting percentage and kills per game. Ferguson has also played with the Granite State Volleyball Club where he helped lead his team to a national title at the 2001 USA Volleyball Championships while garnering MVP honors.

A native of Montville, Connecticut, Ferguson and his wife, Gerilyn, have a daughter, Maggie, a volleyball student-athlete for the Wolves, and a son, Myles. They reside in Southbury, Connecticut.
