DANBURY, Conn. - Junior midfielder James Krieg (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) poured in a game-high four goals while sophomore attack Alex Burbank (Newtown, Conn.) added a hat trick to lift the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team to a 12-7 victory over Clark University in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.
Junior attack Cody Suhr (Holbrook, N.Y.) and rookie middie Joseph D'Orazio (Holtsville, N.Y.) chipped in with a pair of goals each while senior Tristan McMahon (Farmingville, N.Y.) handed out two assists.
The Wolves erupted with five scoring strikes to open the game and wouldn't look back. Burbank netted all three of his markers during the barrage before D'Orazio capped the flurry. McMahon would find a cutting Suhr for a tally as the hosts took a 7-4 lead into halftime.
The squads would exchange goals throughout the third and beginning of the fourth before Krieg canned a pair of unassisted goals to seal the win for the Wolves. Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Kelly (Bethpage, N.Y) was stellar in between the pipes, shielding the WestConn twine with nine saves. With the victory, the Wolves improved to 3-1 overall while Clark sank to 0-3.
WestConn returns to action when they host the University of Hartford in the 31 and 32 Game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
