DANBURY, Conn. — Despite a third-period rally, the Western Connecticut State University men's ice hockey team fell, 4-2, to Little East Conference (LEC) opponent Keene State University on Saturday. The Wolves moved to 2-19-0 overall and 1-13-0 in the league, while the Owls improved to 6-15-0 and 2-12-0.
After a scoreless first period,
Luca Maiuri (Niagara on the Lake, Ontario) capitalized on the shorthanded Owls to put the hosts on the board at 1:17 in the second stanza. KSU scored a powerplay goal 11 minutes later, followed by a pair in the third to take a 3-1 lead, but
Tyler Gobel (Lindon, N.J.) narrowed the deficit to one with less than three minutes left in regulation. Keene State scored an empty net goal to seal the win.
Liam Lane (Castle Rock, Colo.) saved 21 shots in the net for the Wolves, while Ben Skelton denied 33 for the visitors.
WestConn remains at home on Friday, February 13, to host LEC for Norwich University at 4 p.m.
