KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Sophia Onek (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) netted her first goal of the season to lift the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout victory at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a non-conference battle on Saturday. With the win, the Wolves improved to 1-1 overall while USMMA sank to 0-3. 

It was a defensive battle as the teams combined for just 11 total shots and four corner kick opportunities. The Wolves tallied the lone marker of the game when senior Hannah Blacher (Allendale, N.J.) dished out the assist to Onek, who found the back of the net late in the first half.

WestConn junior netminder Gracen Regan (Monroe, N.J.) earned the win en route to compiling three saves, while Eva Fields took the tough luck loss for USMMA, stopping one shot while surrendering the game-winner.

The Wolves will seek to register back-to-back wins when they travel to non-league foe Wesleyan University tomorrow at Noon.
