Julia Stoliker (Red Hook, N.Y.) paced the Wolves with a match-high 15 kills while senior setter
Maggie Ferguson (Southbury, Conn.) dished out a match-high 42 assists. Rookie middle blocker
Ella Hubert (Buffalo, N.Y.) chipped in with five solo blocks and two block assists.
Sophomore outside hitter Maria Weigand (Howard Beach, N.Y.) led the Hawks with nine kills while sophomore setter Elena Savage (West Babylon, N.Y.) added 25 helpers.Â
WestConn jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when senior outside hitter
Sydney Slupatchuk (New Milford, Conn.) took a feed from Stoliker and smashed a shot to the hardwood. The hosts held a 17-13 lead in the second before the Hawks raced back to sneak out a 25-22 second set win. The Wolves struck right back and stormed to a 25-12 victory in the third before outlasting the visitors in the fourth to earn the match victory. Stoliker capped the match with a shot just inside the line off an assist from Ferguson.
With the win, WestConn improved to 3-2 overall while SUNY New Paltz dropped to 5-2. The Wolves return to action for a tri-match hosted by USMMA. They meet the University of Hartford at 1 p.m.
