WestConn Women's Lacrosse Falls At Rowan In NCAA Second Round

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves were beaten, 20-6, by the Rowan University Profs in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament this afternoon.  WestConn finishes the 2025 season with a program record 17 wins against just three losses, while Rowan advances to the NCAA Regional next weekend.  Wolves senior attacker Savannah Kom (Danbury, Conn.) paced the offense with two goals and one assist, while senior Molly Bresnahan (Noank, Conn.) made eight saves, including the 400th of her career, and added a team-high seven ground balls.

WestConn came out strong, as Kom scored the first goal of the game just 50 seconds after the opening draw, converting on a feed by junior midfielder Faye Junge (Centerport, N.Y.) while the Wolves were playing with an advantage due to a Profs green card.  Sophomore Morgan Brace (Brewster, N.Y.) gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with 12:11 left in the first quarter when she beat Rowan goalkeeper Mel Rodgers on a free-position shot.  Rowan rallied to score the next five goals before first break, including three by Elaina Corson.  WestConn sophomore midfielder Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) fired a pair of shots and Kom took one more in the opening quarter, but Rodgers came up with saves on all three.

The Profs kept their momentum and scored the first four goals of the second stanza, as WestConn committed six of its 19 turnovers in the second 15-minute period.  Sophomore Grace King (New Milford, Conn.) scored for the Wolves with 1:11 remaining before halftime but Corson answered for Rowan who led, 12-3, at the break.  Rowan's Alexis Lowry scored on a free-position shot 3:04 into the third, but Wolves junior Madison Ratchford (Ridge, N.Y.) won the ensuing draw and Kom recorded her second tally to make the score, 13-4, at the 9:47 mark of the third. Corson and Ratchford traded goals over the next three minutes, but the Profs outscored the Wolves, 6-0, the rest of the way.

Rowan outshot the Wolves, 30-16, and converted on seven of 10 free positions while allowing just one free-position shot goal by the Wolves.  WestConn sophomore defender Annaliese Reggio (White Plains, N.Y.) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers and Ratchford added a team-high five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Corson led all scorers with 10 goals and two assists and Lowry scored four times with one assist.  Molly Green collected six ground balls, three caused turnovers, and seven draw controls for the Profs.  Rodgers had six saves for the home team.
