DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomore attacker
Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) recorded game-highs of four goals, three assists and six draw controls to guide the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse squad to a 17-2 win over visiting UMass Boston in a Little East Conference matchup at the Westside Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening.
Junior attacker
Madison Ratchford (Ridge, N.Y.) added a hat trick and a pair of assists, while senior
Savannah Kom (Danbury, Conn.), junior
Faye Junge (Centerport, N.Y.) and sophomore
Grace King (New Milford, Conn.) chipped in with two goals and one helper apiece. Graduate student goalkeeper
Molly Bresnahan (Groton, Conn.) didn't miss a beat and put forth her usual stellar effort, finishing with eight saves to earn the win between the pipes for the Wolves.
King sparked the effort with her fifth goal of the campaign before sophomore Ava Duffy (Quincy, Mass.) got the Beacons on the board with her 23rd. But it was all Wolves after that point as they reeled off five straight to hold a 6-1 lead heading into the second. The hosts continued the barrage with five more scoring strikes before halftime. Ratchford rounded out the run with the highlight marker of the year when she took a nifty pass from Kom and whipped a behind-the-back shot into the top corner of the twine, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The tally gave her a team-leading 53 goals on the season and sent the Wolves into the break ahead 11-2.
Nothing changed in the second half as WestConn continued to connect with the back of the net. Pota put the finishing touches on the victory with her 35th and 36th scores of the year. With the victory, the Wolves improved to 13-2 overall and 6-1 in league play. They wrap up regular season play on Friday at 7 p.m. with a league tilt at Vermont State University Castleton before gearing up for the LEC Postseason Championship tournament slated for next week.
