NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves knocked off the SUNY New Paltz Hawks, 6-5, in an extra-inning baseball game this afternoon at Loren Campbell Field. WestConn wins for the second day in a row to improve to 7-15, while the Hawks drop to 21-10. The Wolves will host Castleton in a Little East Conference (LEC) doubleheader tomorrow at noon. Three WestConn rookie pitchers held the Hawks to eight hits and struck out seven with just one walk, while Wolves senior Nick Moeller (Mahopac, N.Y.) had two hits and a stolen base.
Moeller got the Wolves off to a fast start when he singled, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on an error in the first inning. WestConn sophomore 1B

Spencer Barnett (Danbury, Conn.) added RBI singles later in the inning to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. Wolves freshman RHP
Braden Barron (Southington, Conn.) was sensational through four innings, allowing just an unearned run and a few singles. The Hawks scored once in the fifth but Barron held them scoreless again in the sixth and seventh frames.

Bryan Birkl (Farmingdale, N.Y.) gave the Wolves a fourth run in the top of the ninth with a sacrifice fly. The Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, 4-4, with two runs off WestConn rookie LHP

Ryan Vallie (East Haven, Conn.) led off with a single and reached second on an error. Moeller singled, followed by consecutive hit batsmen by Keough and Barnett to plate Vallie for the go-ahead run. Wolves sophomore
Jake Coniglio (New Milford, Conn.) added a sacrifice fly to make the score, 6-4, and McGuire survived the 10th despite allowing run, striking out the final batter to secure his first college win.
