WestConn Baseball Swept At Keene State

KEENE, N.H. - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves lost, 10-4, and, 14-4, against the Keene State College Owls in Little East Conference (LEC) baseball action this afternoon at Owls Athletic Complex.  WestConn, which received four hits, two runs, four RBIs from sophomore Nick Lobuono (Trumbull, Conn.), drops to 5-19 overall and 0-6 in the LEC.  Keene State improves to 12-13 overall and 5-2 in the league.  The Wolves will stay within conference tomorrow when they host LEC rival Eastern Connecticut at 3:30 p.m.

Trailing, 2-1, in the third inning of game one, WestConn got one run back on a single by senior OF Spencer Barnett (Danbury, Conn.), a double by sophomore 2B Ryan Vallie (East Haven, Conn.), and an RBI groundout by sophomore OF Jayson Hannah (Staten Island, N.Y.).  Two Wolves errors contributed to four Owl runs in the fourth inning and the score remained the same until Keene State scored three insurance runs in the eighth frame and another in the ninth.  Lobuono and sophomore SS Bryan Birkl (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had RBI singles and senior Nick Moeller (Mahopac, N.Y.) doubled home a run in the bottom of the ninth for WestConn.  Lobuono and Vallie were both 2-for-4 offensively and junior RHP Max Grewal (Long Beach, N.Y.) started and struck out five but took the loss.  Keene State opened up an 8-0 lead early in the second game, as sophomore RHP Brian Mansfield (Lynbrook, N.Y.) started and fell to 1-3 for WestConn.  Wolves senior reliever John Andrews () was a highlight, pitching 2.2 innings of scoreless relief wth 2 K's.
