KEENE, N.H. - Junior infielder
Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.) drove in five runs to guide the Western Connecticut State University softball team in a doubleheader at Little East Conference opponent Keene State College on Friday afternoon. She notched two in the opening loss, 9-2, before sending a trio of runners across the plate in the Game Two victory, 8-0. Sophomore starting pitcher
Lindsay Farinaccio (Red Hook, N.Y.) tossed a one-hit shutout in the nightcap for the Wolves to earn the win on the mound.
The Owls jumped out to a 5-0 advantage to begin the day. Resto cut the deficit in the fifth inning when she drilled a single to left, scoring a pair of runs while trimming the lead to 5-2. However, the hosts countered with runs in the bottom half of the frame and sixth to round the count out at 9-2.
It was a different story in Game Two as the Wolves put together an eight-run barrage. They jumped ahead 4-0 in the third when Resto belted a shot to the left-center gap with the bases loaded, giving WestConn a 4-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, sophomore
Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.) notched her second RBI groundout of the game, extending the advantage to 5-0. Another runner came home to score on a wild pitch in the same frame before senior
Carly Cordova (East Haven, Conn.) put the finishing touches on the victory when she stroked a single down the right field line to tack on another pair of runs and round the count out at 8-0.Â
With the split, the Wolves moved to 14-10 overall and 2-2 in league play, while the Owls fell to 12-6 and 1-2. WestConn returns to the field when they play a doubleheader against UMass Boston on Sunday at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
