HARTFORD, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team fell at the University of Hartford, 14-4, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Al-Marzook Field. Graduate student attack Benjamin Hawthorne (Manorville, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Tristan McMahon (Farmingville, N.Y.) led the Wolves with one goal and one assist apiece. 

Michael Novotny paced the Hawks with a game-high five goals while Aidan Kemp notched a hat trick.

The Hawks were able to control possession for much of the contest as Ben Costanzo won 21-of-22 faceoffs. The hosts also won the battle on the ground, 37-20. Hartford held a slight edge in shots, 40-34.

Novotny netted the lone goal of the first quarter before the Wolves got on the board early in the second when senior attack Julian Duque (Mastic, N.Y.) took a pass from McMahon and tickled the twine. However, the Hawks responded with a five of the next six scores to snag a 6-2 halftime lead.

It was all Hartford in the second half as they continued to pour it on with a 6-0 run. WestConn graduate student middie Tyler Starrett (Redding, Conn.) rounded out the scoring when he found the back of the net off a feed from Hawthorne, setting the final at 14-4. 

With the loss, the Wolves skid hit three games as the dropped to 3-3. The Hawks improved to 1-3. WestConn returns to action across town as they square off against Trinity College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
