Brianna Malvino (Glen Cove, N.Y.) went-for-5 with three runs, two RBIs, a home run, and two walks and stole home to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 6/10-4/8 doubleheader sweep against the visiting St. Joseph's University Brooklyn Bears in softball action this evening. WestConn evens its season record at 8-8 and will host SUNY Purchase next on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. St. Joseph's drops to 7-5. Senior LHP

Hailey O'Reilly (Riverdale, N.J.) picked up her first college win in the circle in the nightcap for the Wolves.
Sophomore Payton Walker homered for the Bears in the top of the first inning, but WestConn took a 2-1 lead after two innings. Graduate
Rachael Ushka (Southbury, Conn.) singled, advanced to third on two passed balls, and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman
Victoria Wiatrak (Cromwell, Conn.). Malvino also singled in the inning and gave the Wolves a 2-1 lead with a steal of home. The Bears broke out for three runs in the fourth inning and the score stayed put at 4-2 until the sixth.

Gretchen Bunovsky (Monroe, Conn.) singled in a run and scored and senior
Carly Cordova (East Haven, Conn.) scored on a double steal to tie the score at 4-4. Junior
Jaycee Filancia (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) singled in a run and junior
Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.) doubled home Filancia to put WestConn up 6-4. Bordenaro pitched a hitless and scoreless ninth to even her season mark at 2-2, scattering seven hits and striking out one. Makena Burr also tossed a complete game but fell to 3-3. Offensively, Cordova shined with three hits in three at-bats, while Malvino and resto were both 2-for-3. Walker reached base safely four times with two hits and two walks in four times at bat.
St. Joseph's erupted for five runs in the first inning of the second game, including two on a two-out, two-run triple by Audrey Scott. WestConn answered with a six-run bottom of the inning, as Filancia and sophomore
Benni Tucci (Norwalk, Conn.) both singled and scored and Malvino blasted a two-run homer to highlight the frame. The Bears tied the game, 6-6, in the second, but sophomore
Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.) gave the lead right back to WestConn with a two-out, run-scoring single.
Tucci and Allen drove home one more run each in the third inning, but St. Joseph's scored twice in the fourth to make it, 9-8. WestConn freshman reliever
Madison Mandra () settled in, however, pitching the last four innings and yielding two hits and no earned runs to collect her first career save. Cordova belted an RBI double in the sixth for WestConn's 10th run, while Tucci finished 3-for-4 and Allen was 2-for-4. Autumn Poppett took the loss and both Scott and Brielle Nelson had two hits for the Bears.
