DAVENPORT, Fla. - Four different players found the back of the net but it wasn't enough as the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team fell to Clarkson University, 14-4, in a non-league matchup on Monday to open their spring trip.
Graduate student attackman
Benjamin Hawthorne (Manorville, N.Y.) paced the Wolves with a goal and an assist. Four different players canned two goals apiece for Clarkson. Vincent Lavarnway finished with a game-high three points on a scoring strike and two assists.
As the score would indicate, Clarkson would control much of the play. They outshot the Wolves, 47-28, while also seizing the ground ball battle, 37-24.Â
The Golden Knights jumped out to a 7-1 lead to end the first quarter. They would not look back the rest of the way. Trailing 4-0,
Liam Ford got WestConn on the board when he tickled the twine midway through the stanza.Â
The Wolves would head into the locker room at halftime facing a 9-3 deficit. Clarkson added three goals in the third and another pair in the fourth before Wolves' junior long-stick defender
Tyler Moeller (Rocky Point, N.Y.) connected with the twine to round the count out at 14-4.
With the loss, WestConn dropped to 3-5 overall while the Golden Knights improved to 6-2. WestConn wraps up the trip with a contest against Farmingdale State on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
