DANBURY, Conn. - Senior guard
Keeshawn Jones (Middletown, N.Y.) drained a game-high 15 points to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball squad to an 85-66 victory over Little East Conference archrival Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday evening at Feldman Arena. It marked the fourth straight win for the Wolves over the Warriors.Â
Classmate forward
Jourdan Belcher (Elmsford, N.Y.) added 14 points and a game-high four steals, while rookie reserve forward
Marcel Henry (Yonkers, N.Y.) joined them in double figures with 10 points.
Sophomore guard Cedrick Similien (Norwich, Conn.) led Eastern with 13 points on a 5-for-6 shooting performance, while junior forward Jalen Jamblin (West Hartford, Conn.) contributed 10. Sophomore guard Esco Greene (New Britain, Conn.) chipped in with eight points and a game-high six assists.
WestConn continued its red-hot shooting at a staggering 50 percent (35-of-70) clip while smothering the visitors and forcing 22 turnovers. The Wolves controlled the majority of the contest and raced out to 42-27 halftime advantage.
They continued to pour it on with a dunkfest in the second stanza. Belcher threw down a pair of thunderous two-handed slams before sophomore guard
Quintin Chapman (Danbury, Conn.) soared to the rim off a long pass from senior forward
Cameron Gallon (York, Pa.) to stretch the WestConn lead to 23 with just over eight minutes remaining in the contest. Sophomore guard
Lorenzo Almonte (Bethel, Conn.) got in on the action canning back-to-back three-pointers before rookie guard
Armaan Sandhu (Abbotsford, British Columbia) rounded out the scoring for the Wolves with a pretty midrange jumper.
With the victory, WestConn improved to 13-8 overall and 9-3 in league play, while Eastern fell to 12-8 and 4-8. The Wolves will look to extend their win streak to six when they travel to LEC foe Southern Maine on Saturday at 2 p.m.
