Faye Junge (Centerport, N.Y.) and sophomore
Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored four times each to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 15-3 victory over the Smith College Pioneers in women's lacrosse action this afternoon on Smith Field. WestConn improves to 2-0, spoiling WestConn's season opener. The Wolves will return home on Saturday to entertain Farmingdale State at 4 p.m.
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) opened the scoring with 8:18 left in the first quarter and Junge scored twice, sandwiched around a Pioneer goal by Kira Hawk, to put the Wolves ahead, 3-1, with 2:23 on the clock. Pota scored with 17 seconds on the clock to close the first quarter. The Wolves scored nine more times in a row before Smith ended its 43:35 scoring drought with 12:35 left in the final stanza. Madison Ratchford (Ridge, N.Y.) had a hat trick, while Gracy and sophomore
Morgan Brace () scored twice each to account for all 15 goals by the visitors. In goal, graduate student
Molly Bresnahan (Grotn, Conn.) made 15 saves, Ratchford notched a game-high four caused turnovers, and Pota won a game-high six draw controls.
