Ryan Teehan (Easton, Mass.) and gave the Western Connecticut State University men's hockey team an early lead, however, host Anna Maria College rallied to down the visitors, 5-1, in a non-conference matchup on Thursday evening.
Tobias Omholt led the comeback for the Amcats with a goal and two assists. Nolan Ring and Brandon Della-Paolera each contributed a scoring strike and a helper in the winning effort.Â
The Wolves got on the board 9:50 into the game when Graham canned his first marker of the campaign. They would hold the 1-0 advantage heading into the second period. Omholt evened the contest at 1-1 when he took a long pass from Matthew Hennessey and found the back of the twine. Anna Maria added back-to-back power play tallies late in the second and early in the third to stretch the gap to 3-1. They would eventually notch a late short-handed tally followed by yet another power play marker with less than a minute remaining to wrap up the game.
The Amcats finished ahead in shots, 49-25, while controlling faceoffs, 47-15. WestConn first-year netminderÂ
Malte Hedlund (Skelleflea, Sweden) finished with 44 saves while Hennessey notched 24 for the winners.Â
With the loss, WestConn moved to 0-5 overall while the Amcats improved to 2-2. The Wolves return to the ice on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. for a Little East Conference battle at Keene State.
