DANBURY, Conn. - Senior forward
Reagan Schoen (Newtown, Conn.), who last week moved into second place on WestConn's all-time scoring list, scored the game-winning goal 1:27 into overtime to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 3-2 win over the visiting Plymouth State University Panthers in Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey action this morning at Westside Stadium. WestConn finished the 2025 regular season with a 7-10 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the LEC, snapping a three-game losing skid and winning over the Panthers for the first time in seven games. Plymouth State ends its regular season at 5-11 overall and 1-5 in the league. Both teams have qualified for the LEC Championship Tournament. WestConn visits Castleton and Plymouth State plays at Southern Maine on Tuesday in the first round.
Both offenses came out strong, as Schoen sent an early shot past Plymouth State goalkeeper Natalie Merrick before the ball was stopped in front of the cage by Kyle Napolitano for a defensive save. WestConn sophomore goalkeeper
Jaden Kilmer (East Islip, N.Y.) made three successive saves moments later, only to have Plymouth State's Katie Porrello put home the first goal of the game from Ellie Monahan with 6:40 left in the opening quarter. The Wolves nearly tied it in the opening minute of the second frame when senior
Vanesa Dominguez (Danbury, Conn.) hit the post, while the Panthers forced Kilmer to make three saves and both Schoen and sophomore
Nora Tracy () had defensive saves to keep the score the same into halftime.
In the third quarter, WestConn sophomore midfielder
Andrea Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) hit another post and Schoen had a goal called off by the officials before sophomore midfielder
Jaelyn Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) knotted the game at 1-1 with 11:28 on the clock. Schoen started the play with a pass to the right of the cage that Dominguez slid over the Moulton in the middle for an assist. WestConn took a 2-1 with 9:11 left in the third quarter when
Andrea Moulton found junior
Alyssa Montalvo (Holbrook, N.Y.) by the left of the cage and Montalvo stopped the ball on a dime before beating Merrick for her seventh goal of the year. The Panthers scored 2:25 into the final frame on Porrello's second tally of the morning, converting on a give-and-go by Lexi Berrettini. Schoen had two shots in the fourth quarter stopped by Merrick, but found the back of the cage off
Andrea Moulton's second assist of the day. The goal put Schoen at second all-time with 33 goals with the Wolves. Kilmer was stellar with 14 saves and Merrick finished with six stops.
