WestConn Women's Soccer Opens LEC Playoffs Against Rhode Island College Saturday

DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves, coached by Alex Harrison (10th Season), have qualified for the Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Soccer Championship Tournament as the No. 4 seed.  Twelve-time Little East Champion WestConn, which has qualified for the LEC Championship Tourney in all 26 seasons of its existence, will host the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen (9-6-1, 4-3-1) in the opening round on Saturday, November 1 at 5:30 p.m.  The Wolves finished the 2025 regular season with an 11-7-2 overall record and a 4-3-1 mark in the league to finish tied with the University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons and the Anchorwomen for fourth place in the final standings.  WestConn earned the No. 4 seed thanks to a 4-1 win over the Beacons on October 4 and a 2-0 shutout of Rhode Island College on October 18.

The winner of the LEC Championship Tournament will determine the league's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Top-seeded Eastern Connecticut (10-4-3, 5-1-2) and No. 2-seeded Keene State (9-4-6, 4-0-4) received first round byes, while No. 3-seeded Southern Maine (8-10-2, 4-2-2) hosts No. 6-seeded UMass Boston (8-7-3, 4-3-1) in the other semifinal game Saturday.  The LEC Championship semifinals will take place on Wednesday, November 5 and the semifinal winners will play in the finals on Saturday at the highest remaining seed.

WestConn recovered from a 1-3-1 start over the season's first 12 days to rattle off five straight wins. The Wolves stood at 4-1-1 in conference play but suffered a pair of one-goal losses in late October to finish 4-3-1 in the LEC.  The Wolves have historic success in the Little East Tournament with its 12 titles, most recently in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, and 18 finals appearances including each of the last four autumns.  WestConn is 2-2-1 against the tournament field including its 2-0 shutout of Rhode island College on October 17.  The Wolves are 3-0 all-time against the Anchorwomen in the LEC Tourney and the teams last faced each other in the 2016 LEC First Round won by the Wolves, 2-0.  

WestConn sophomore Shannon Anderson (New Milford, Conn.) is a top scorer in the conference with nine goals, while Anderson and senior midfielder Hannah Blacher (Allendale, N.J.) have combined for 10 assists between them this fall.  Blacher is also second on the squad with sis goal.  Junior goalkeeper Gracen Regan (Monroe, N.J.) is tied for the league lead with six shutouts in front of the Wolves back led by seniors Sophia Onek (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Casey Papp (Seaford, N.Y.).  Junior forward Abigail Corcoran (Newington, Conn.), third on the team with five goals, and freshman midfielder Olga Mayen (Brookfield, Conn.) have started every game this aumum.
