Five Players Reach Double Figures as Men's Hoop Downs CCNY

DANBURY, Conn. - Five players notched double figures in scoring as the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team cruised to an 86-69 victory over visiting non-league opponent City College of New York on Tuesday evening at Feldman Arena. Senior guard Jeremiah Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the way with 17 points while classmate forward Jourdan Belcher (Elmsford, N.Y.) chipped in with 16 despite limited minutes due to foul trouble.

Reigning Little East Conference Rookie of the Week Marcel Henry (Yonkers, N.Y) connected on 15 which included a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw stripe. The Wolves finished shooting 53 percent from the floor, while knocking down nearly 80 percent of their shots from the line.

Senior forward Edward Beqiri (Yonkers, N.Y.) paced the Beavers with 17 points while classmate guard Chris Stone (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior guard Kayson Dinkins (Harlem, N.Y) added 13 apiece.

The lead switched hands several times in the early going before WestConn opened up a 19-9 lead midway through the first half when Henry canned a bucket from inside the paint. They extended the advantage to 12 before CCNY put together a surge to slice it to a 29-26 gap when Beqiri hit an offensive putback. However, the Wolves answered with a run of their own to seize a 40-31 halftime lead.

Things would not get any easier for the visitors in the second half. WestConn stretched the margin to 19 points on several occasions as they breezed the rest of the way.

With the win, the Wolves improved to 4-3 overall while the Beavers sank to 1-2. WestConn returns to action when they open LEC play on Sunday at 3 p.m. against visiting UMass Boston.
