JAMAICA, N.Y. - Senior forward
Jourdan Belcher (Elmsford, N.Y.) and junior guard
Tayejon Lynch (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) each netted 18 points to lead the Western Connecticut State Univerisity men's basketball team to a 91-62 victory at non-conference opponent York College on Tuesday evening. Junior forward
Nick Boyce (Jamaica, N.Y.) chipped in with a hometown performance of 14 points and five rebounds while dishing out five assists for the Wolves.
Aidony Navar paced the hosts with a game-high 19 points while Brandon Barrett hauled in a game-high 12 rebounds.
WestConn fired home 55 percent (36-for-66) of their shots from the floor while holding the Cardinals to just a 37 percent (22-for-59) clip. The Wolves raced out to an early 6-0 lead and would not look back the rest of the way. Belcher got things going with a jumper and then a pair of free throws before sophomore guard
C.J. Riley (Yonkers, N.Y.) connected on a layup and a three-pointer to put the visitors ahead 9-3.Â
WestConn extended the advantage to 19 points courtesy of a Belcher tip-in. They would head into halftime ahead 45-25.Â
York cut the deficit to 57-45 midway through the second half when Navar buried one of his five trifectas on the night. But it wouldn't help much as the Wolves answered with a staggering 15-5 run to put the contest out of reach for the hosts. They continued to pile it on with another barrage to end the game as they reeled off a 25-10 flurry.Â
With the win, WestConn improved to 2-3 overall while York plummeted to 0-4. The Wolves return to action when they host non-league foe Elms College on Sunday at 2 p.m.
