Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Three First-Half Goals Leads To Win At Southern Maine

GORHAM, Me. - The Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team scored three first-half goals and coasted to a 3-0 victory over University of Southern Maine in the regular-season finale at Hannaford Field on Saturday afternoon.

WestConn wraps up the regular season at 16-1 overall and a perfect 8-0 in league action.  The United States Coaches 24th ranked team captured the LEC regular-season title and the LEC Championships' top seed for the upcoming tournament, which begins on Tuesday, November 2.  WestConn earned a first-round bye and will host the winner of the #4 vs #5 seed, which can be Castleton University, Eastern Connecticut State University or University of Southern Maine, depending on the outcome of Saturday's late game against UMass Boston and the Spartans. Game time for the semifinal will be announced this weekend.

As for the contest, sophomore forward Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) scored the game's first goal of the game in the 19th minute when she made a pair of cuts in the box and put away her 24th tally of the season.

Marysia Slowik (Norwalk, Conn.) added her third goal of the season following a wide-open feed from Croze at the 30:07 mark.

With 5:03 remaining before intermission, freshman Emma Slonski (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored her first career goal after stripping the ball from Southern Maine goalie Bre Atwood and finding the back of the onion bag.

Senior Karly Martin (Bristol, Conn.) earned her fifth clean sheet of the season after making nine saves for the winners.

Atwood also made nine saves for the Huskies, which drop to 11-3-3 overall and 4-3-1 in the LEC.

WestConn sealed up its 13th LEC regular-season title earlier in the season and will attempt to capture its 12th post-season crown next weekend.  The highest remaining seed after Thursday's semi-final will host the championship on Saturday, November 6.
