Women's Soccer Falls at Wesleyan, 4-0

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, CT - After downing Buffalo State on Saturday, the WestConn women's soccer team fell at non-conference opponent Wesleyan University, 4-0, on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 1-2 overall while the Cardinals earned their first win to move to 1-0.

"We faced a tough team tonight in Wesleyan," said WestConn head coach Alex Harrison after the defeat. "We need to work hard in practice over the next several days as we prepare to meet Scranton at home on Saturday," he added.

Wesleyan's Liz Young took advantage of a penalty kick at the 13:44 mark, rifling the ball into the back of the net, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

At the 58:27 mark Goetzman chipped a ball over the top that sent Colonial sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Lainchbury (Hopewell Junction, NY) charging off her line. Wesleyan's Emily Ribatt collected the rebound and beat Lainchbury one-on-one before netting the second goal of the game.

Just 4:47 later, Wesleyan made it a 3-0 game. Young sent a cross into the box from the left side of the field, before Katie Stewart Frizzell trapped the ball and buried it in the back to the goal.

WestConn had an opportunity to get on the board at the 71:22 mark, but junior Jasmine Grey's (Naugatuck, CT) header was saved by Cardinal goalkeeper Zoe Cassels-Brown.

With just 89 seconds left in the contest, Wesleyan's Nicole Galli settled a cross and sent the ball back to Camila Rodlauer who one-timed the ball outside of the 18, making it 4-0.

The Colonials will look to even their record against Scranton at The WAC on Saturday at 2 p.m.
