WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Western Connecticut State University men's and women's swim teams shattered more school records as they wrapped up the third and final day of the Little East Conference Championships hosted by the Boston Sports Institute on Sunday. Rookie
Evan Shopbell (Forest, Va.) was tabbed LEC Rookie Swimmer of the Year.
Shopbell started the record breaking barrage as he set a new mark in the 200-yard butterfly preliminary race. However, he was unable to continue on in the finals due to injury.
Senior
David Lawrence (Newtown, Conn.) followed it up with another record setter as he captured second place in the 1,650-yard freestyle relay. The men's squad also broke the WestConn record in the 400-yard free relay.
On the women's side, seniors
Molly Henry (Pound Ridge, N.Y.),
Hope Johnsky (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore
Annie Sobolewski (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) continued their strong efforts. Henry seized the eighth spot in the 100-free, while Johnsky notched ninth in the 1,650-free relay. Sobolewski touched the wall seventh in the 100 IM.
The men finished in fourth place with a score of 391 points, while the women earned the 10th spot with 181.5 points. The Keene State women defended their crown and took home their 19th LEC title. Bridgewater State won for the men. It marked their second straight championship.
